Worth county man pleads guilty to murder

SYLVESTER, Ga. – A Worth county man plead guilty Wednesday just before his trial scheduled to begin in Tift Superior Court for malice & felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery, and kidnapping in connection with the August 2022 shooting death of Hannah Beth Patterson, of whom he had been in a prior relationship with.

On August 10, 2022, Demarcus Brown followed Patterson from her job to a convenience store at the corner of 5th Street and Tift Avenue. Brown approached her and attempted to forcibly remove her from the store at gunpoint. He took her cell phone, at which point Patterson was able to get away from him. She was later shot by brown while in her car at the intersection of 5th Street and Tift Avenue. Brown fled the scene but was apprehended by Worth County Sheriff’s deputies the following day after a brief standoff.

Chief Superior Court Judge Bill Reinhardt sentenced Demarcus Brown to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
