Red Pine Lake in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Red Pine Lake is a beautiful alpine lake tucked high above Little Cottonwood Canyon. The trail climbs through forest, passes the turnoff to Gloria Falls, and continues upward with several great viewpoints looking back down the canyon into the Salt Lake Valley. The final stretch is steep, but the payoff is a large, stunning lake sitting in a high granite basin. You can often see wildlife along this trail, too. Red Pine lake water is clear, and the whole hike is beautiful. This trail is challenging, so it isn’t super family-friendly.

Salt Lake Community College hosted its seventh annual Casino Night on Oct. 23. The event, organized by the Thayne Center, took place at the Student Center at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. The main attraction was a mock casino featuring blackjack, roulette, and craps. Attendees received 300 poker chips, not tied to real money, and at the end of the evening, players traded chips in for raffle tickets.
