(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 33-year-old man drowned over the weekend after he attempted to swim across a pond and back, police in west suburban Woodridge said.

Police responded Sunday to reports of a drowning in a lake on the north side of Windsor Lakes Apartment Complex, but officers could not locate anyone, even after one of them went into the water, officials said.

Area firefighters arrived and did a search and pulled a man from the water. He was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The victim has been identified as Kleyvin Cundapi-Contreras.

An investigation revealed Cundapi-Contreras went into the lake in an attempt to swim across and back but went under.
