Woodbury state senator jailed in connection with alleged burglary

A Democratic state lawmaker from Woodbury is in custody Monday on suspicion of burglary in Detroit Lakes.

The Detroit Lakes Police Department arrested Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, around Monday while responding to a residential burglary around 4:45 a.m., according to Police Chief Steve Todd.

The Becker County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case to determine whether or not criminal charges will be filed, Todd confirmed Monday afternoon.

Becker County Jail records show Mitchell is in custody in connection with first-degree burglary.

It's been reported by the Star Tribune that Mitchell's stepmother and late father lived on the block where the burglary was reported.

Mitchell, a former meteorologist for KSTP and MPR News and a commander in the Air National Guard, is currently serving her first term as Senator of Senate District 47.
