A 12-year-old was shot at on Friday after being confronted about a pair of shoes he was wearing, the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) said.
Shortly before 4 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Bel Air Road in Woodbridge to investigate a shooting that occurred. While at the scene, police were informed that the shooting came from a vehicle that fled the area.
The investigation revealed that a 12-year-old victim was approached by a juvenile acquaintance earlier in the day about a pair of shoes he was wearing, PWCPD explained. Later, both juveniles got off a school bus and the 12-year-old was struck in the head by the acquaintance which then led to a physical altercation.
At some point, additional children came to the area where the two were fighting and separated them. The 12-year-old victim was reportedly still in possession of his shoes.
A short time later, authorities said the victim was walking home when he heard a car quickly approach him and then slow down when it got close. The driver of the car then threatened to take the boy's shoes, PWCPD said.
The boy entered a nearby home and reportedly locked the door. Then multiple shots were allegedly fired into the home before the car was seen fleeing the area, officials confirmed.
The car was later found in the 14300 block of Jeffries Road where the suspects were not to be found. Officers determined that the car was previously reported stolen.
No injuries were reported during the incident and two homes and one other car sustained damage as a result of the incident. Police will continue to investigate the matter.
