BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) will have an increased presence at one high school on Friday following a threat investigation.

In a Wednesday Facebook post , BCSO said that the department was aware of a possible threat to Central High School during a pep rally. The BCSO, the Bedford County School System and school resource officers had reportedly been investigating the threat since becoming aware of it.

“At this time, we do not feel that there is a credible threat,” the post reads, in part. “Out of an abundance of caution, we will have extra deputies on campus at Central High School on Friday.”

The BCSO encouraged anyone aware of threats against any school to immediately notify law enforcement as shared social media posts make investigations difficult.

This comes as the state’s Department of Safety & Homeland Security has investigated school threats 125 in just one week. Between August 1 and September 14, there were 321 threats reported to the state, though deputy commissioner of Homeland Security Greg Mays told News 2 that the actual number of threats made against Tennessee schools is likely higher.

Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday all saw arrests across the mid-state in relation to school threats . Additionally, a July 2023 law that made school threats a zero-tolerance offense led to a surge of expulsions in some districts.

This doesn't surprise me with it being Central. That happens every year with them BUT this has been happening more and more and it's getting to the point that parents are going to start pulling kids out
