YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A passenger in a car that was stopped Friday evening for a traffic offense on the South Side spent the weekend in the Mahoning County Jail on a gun charge.

Brailyn Bunn, 29, is expected to be arraigned Monday in municipal court on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a third-degree felony; and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Reports said he was a passenger in an SUV that was spotted about 10:10 p.m. stopped in the roadway at East Judson Avenue and Rush Boulevard.

When police went to investigate, they saw several open containers of alcohol inside, and the driver of the SUV had several open suspensions on his license.

When police searched the car, they found a 9mm handgun inside a purse, reports said.

Reports said Brailyn Bunn told police the gun was his and he was taken into custody. Reports said he has several felony convictions, including an aggravated robbery conviction in 2018 from Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

The woman who had the purse, Alexis Ivy, 25, was charged with a second-degree misdemeanor improper handling charge because she did not inform police that there was a gun in her purse.

The driver was cited for driving under suspension.

The driver and Ivy were both cited and released at the scene.
