Police: Juvenile charged with four counts of death threats at a school in Washington County, Va.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A juvenile has been charged with four counts of “threats of death or serious injury at a school” on Wednesday after a social media post concerned students in Washington County, Virginia.

According to the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office, a concerned student reported a social media post they discovered, which reportedly displayed aerial views of “four local schools with disturbing sound effects while viewing the post.”

The sheriff’s office said upon notification, Washington County Schools began its safety protocol. During the investigation into the post, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Abingdon Police Department assisted with extra patrols at the schools, the sheriff’s office said.

“A joint law enforcement effort between the Washington County Sheriff’s office and the U.S Marshal service revealed a suspect and the device used to facilitate the threat,” the sheriff’s office states.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to police. The suspect was charged with four counts of “threats of death or serious injury at a school” and is being held at a juvenile detention center.

“We would like to recognize the quick thinking and trust that our Washington County VA students have in their School resource officers and the School administration,” the sheriff’s office states.
