A fishing tournament for the kids in the North Country is decades in the making. On Saturday, kids from across Essex County, N.Y. were angling in Roe Pond in Witherbee, N.Y. for the 33rd annual Roe Pond Kids' Fishing Derby. Kids younger than 15 years old were eligible to win several prizes, including lures, poles and a custom-made fishing trophy for the top three leaders in each age group. Audrey Moore, 12, was the ultimate winner of the tournament, after reeling in a trout at over 25 inches. She was the only fisher to catch a trout even over 20 inches, leaving a series of emotions once Moore made the catch early into the tournament's start. "I was very surprised," Moore said. "I started shaking, couldn't stop smiling. It was just very exciting for me."For winning, Moore was given a lifetime New York state hunting, trapping and fishing license for free, a license which normally costs just under $600.
