WISCONSIN RAPIDS − Charges were filed Wednesday afternoon against a 38-year-old man police say pointed a handgun at an officer investigating a report of a domestic disturbance.

Travis E. Drollinger of Wisconsin Rapids faces charges of five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, one as a domestic abuse incident and one count each of marijuana possession, cocaine possession, controlled substance possession, negligent handling of a firearm, disorderly conduct as a domestic abuse incident and drug paraphernalia possession.

According to the criminal complaint, Drollinger became angry on March 11 because he wanted a woman to go to the Wisconsin Dells with him and she wouldn't go because she had plans with her daughter. The man went to the Dells with his son, but he kept sending angry texts to the woman's daughter and her boyfriend. At one point, he said he would kill the daughter's boyfriend that day or the next day, according to the complaint.

Drollinger told the woman to have her daughter's belongings out of the house by 5 p.m., or he would burn them, according to the complaint. The woman armed herself with a pair of scissors because she was afraid of Drollinger.

Drollinger got to the house at 5:40 p.m., became angry and yelled that he was going to protect the house, according to the complaint. Drollinger continued to yell at the woman and called her a liar, according to the complaint. She feared for her safety, barricaded herself in a room and called 911.

When officers arrived, Drollinger talked to one of them at the door. He said he wasn't going to jail that day, according to the complaint.

The woman came out onto the porch and Drollinger went into the garage. He came back out and stood in the doorway. Drollinger then started to back up and a sergeant told him to stay where he was. Drollinger took a couple steps back, reached behind his back and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, according to the complaint. The sergeant yelled, "gun" and took out his firearm.

The sergeant fired two shots in Drollinger's direction, according to the complaint. On the scene, a third round was heard after the sergeant's gun appeared to malfunction, according to the complaint; three officers were standing directly behind the sergeant when Drollinger pointed the gun. The woman had been on the porch but ran when she heard the shots.

Drollinger went back into the home and a standoff took place for several hours before Drollinger surrendered, according to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department.

Wood County Circuit Judge Greg Potter set a $25,000 cash bail Monday, which Drollinger posted. He was in court on Wednesday afternoon when the charges were filed. His next appearance is scheduled for April 17.

If convicted, Drollinger faces a maximum sentence of 74 years and one month in prison.
