The city announced Wednesday that emergency road repairs along Shore Road are complete. Crews added a new sidewalk, handrails, a curb and asphalt.

The Gee Creek area was just one of the hardest-hit communities affected by Ian.

Last September, the creek suffered severe flooding and blocked residents at the crossing.

The Winter Springs City Commission approved the emergency repairs in February and began work on the roadway earlier this month.

City officials said crews have been working on recommendations published in a study after Hurricane Irma hit Florida in 2017.

Those recommendations included storm drains and culverts to keep floodwater flowing.

“In Hacienda Village, for example, there was a point where they did put up some walling to keep the erosion from taking out the banks of the creek,” city spokesman Matthew Reeser said. “So, those kinds of projects were part of the scope of the study.”

Since the city finished the Shore Road repairs, crews will work on emergency repairs at Wade Street.
