One of the country’s rising sports is making its way to Polk County.

The Winter Haven American Pickleball Tournament (APT) — ideal for beginners to profressionals , and everyone in between ― will transpire Friday, Aug. 11 through Sunday, Aug. 13 at the AdventHealth Fieldhouse, 210 Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven. Registration will close Thursday, Aug. 3, with tournament play beginning Saturday, Aug. 12, continuing through Sunday. Those who are 14 years old and older and all skill levels are invited.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong that uses a paddle, which was created with all ages and skill levels in mind. It is an opportunity for novices and advanced players to get active and make some new friends, while improving one’s pickleball skill set.

“We are thrilled to bring the American Pickleball Tour to Winter Haven for the very first time,”Aaron Del Mar, APT founder, said. “This city has some amazing attractions that will be perfect for our social gatherings that take place after the tournament, and participants will walk away with great memories while enjoying one of the fastest growing sports in America.”

Those who register will get a visor and a towel. Branded shirts will be available for purchase, too.

Players in the top three for each event in different age and skill brackets will earn a customized APT medal.

Invited as well are clubs, businesses, and organizations that can participate in groups, and can receive perks, including registration discounts.
