AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING FATAL APARTMENT FIRE IN WINSTON

Authorities are investigating a fatal apartment fire that took place Saturday morning in Winston.

A release from the City of Winston Police Department said at 6:45 a.m. officers from WPD along with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the blaze at the Blueridge Apartments in the 100 block of Southwest Hart Avenue. It was reported that flames could be seen coming out of an apartment on the top floor with smoke spreading throughout the quadplex. Crews from the Winston-Dillard Fire District, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and the City of Roseburg Fire Department responded and were able to extinguish the fire.

After further investigation, an unknown male subject was found deceased inside. The Oregon State Fire Marshal and the Douglas County Medical Examiners Office began an investigation into the cause of the death. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
