Winona State University unveils education village ropes course

    2024-08-07

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) -- Winona State University showed off their new ropes course Wednesday.

The 45-foot high and 30-foot-long course is on the education village campus.

The high ropes course serves as both an academic resource and a center for physical wellness.

It promotes the one of the university's founding goals of play in education.

"I hope they get an opportunity to say, you know what I'm going to set my phone down and I'm going to do something, and I'm going to do this challenging thing with people and it's going to contribute to my growth and development," said Winona Dean of the College of Education Scott Sorvaag.

Winona area public schools also plan to use the course to expand their educational activities.

"The schools hope the course will provide a space for our students to engage in active learning in an environment that promotes teamwork, resiliency, and physical and mental well-being," said Sorvaag.
