George Washington Wyndham Grand Hotel has signed on to open a new location of Pizzeria Uno, the pizzeria franchise known all over the world as the birthplace of Chicago-style deep dish.

The restaurant will hold an opening ribbon-cutting at 103 East Piccadilly Street in Winchester, Virginia, on June 2, the company announced. It’s part of Pizzeria Uno’s restaurant conversion franchise opportunity for hotel owners.

“As a franchise company, we are always looking for the best strategy for our concept,” Erik Frederick, CEO of Pizzeria Uno, said in a press release. “Since opening these conversions, every one of them has seen significant sales growth. Hotel guests are coming in and seeing a known and loved brand that they feel comfortable dining with.”

The George Washington Hotel is a historic hotel located in downtown Winchester, Virginia. It was built in 1924 by The American Hotel Corporation as part of its “Colonial Chain” of hotels with a unique historic look.

“The owners of the hotel have been long-term Pizzeria Uno fans and visit the location in Deep Creek Lake often,” said Suzi Smith, general manager of the hotel. “It was a great decision to open a location here and fabulous to work with a unique restaurant to go with the unique look of the hotel.”

Partnering with Pizzeria Uno provides an opportunity for hotel operators who want to make more from their food and beverage program by leveraging a well-known restaurant brand. Opportunities can apply to those interested in converting their current hotel restaurant to a Pizzeria Uno-branded restaurant, hotel operators building out new hotels and restaurants, or owners of existing hotels that are adding a restaurant for the first time.

There are additional Pizzeria Uno locations scheduled to open in hotels in 2023 and more in the pipeline, the company said.
