‘I didn’t even hear it’: Winchester homeowner wakes up to find car lodged under toppled porch

WINCHESTER, Mass. — A shocked homeowner in Winchester woke up Tuesday morning to find a car resting on his front lawn underneath his toppled porch.

Emergency crews responding to a report of a vehicle into a home in the area of Harvard and Florence streets found a grey delivery vehicle partially stuck under an overhang that detached from the home in the crash.

The driver was backing up when the pedal got stuck, causing him to reverse in an out-of-control manner, a neighborhood resident told Boston 25. The driver was able to escape the wreck without injury.

Mike McGoff said he was fast asleep when he suddenly jolted awake to the sound of his phone ringing off the hook.

“I didn’t even hear it because the guys working down the street drop a big dumpster every day out front. I thought it was just the guy dropping the dumpster off,” McGoff said. “Then people are calling me. I said, ‘What’s going on?’ Then I came out of my house.”

Video from the scene showed officers and firefighters assessing the damage. Debris could be seen piled up on the lawn.

The wayward vehicle, which had an electronic video board on its roof advertising food deliveries, has since been towed out of the wreckage.

Other than the splintered porch, there was no other damage to the home.

The crash is under investigation.
