DUNCAN, S.C. — Barton College survived a pair of elimination games Friday in the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas softball tournament, downing Belmont Abbey 4-2 and knocking off Young Harris 4-1 to reach Saturday’s losers bracket semifinal against Emmanuel at 4 p.m.
The No. 9 Bulldogs, now 24-19, got a complete game from All-Conference Carolinas first-team pitcher Miranda Holmes, who gave up four hits and three walks in notching her 21st win under cool, damp conditions on Friday morning at Tyger River Park. First baseman Savannah Olson knocked in two runs for Barton while Adison Yoder took the loss for the No. 11 Crusaders, who finished 25-24 overall.
Holmes (22-10) got the win again in game 2 but only worked four innings after freshman Ali Bunch twirled the first three scoreless innings for Barton.
Young Harris (29-24), the No. 4 seed, scratched Holmes for an earned run in the bottom of the sixth innings. Barton then scored four runs in the top of the seventh off just one hit — left fielder Kandice Condrey’s two-out, two-run double. The Bulldogs tied the game when Olson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded following a hit batter, Mountain Lions error and a walk. Barton took the lead on right fielder Elana Griffin’s sacrifice fly to center field.
Condrey was 3 for 4 to lead Barton while center fielder Makenzie Cyzick was 2 for 5. MEN’S LACROSSE
Bulldogs knocked out of CC semis by Trojans
The Electric Supply Co. Field advantage didn’t help host Barton College on Friday as top-seeded Mount Olive invaded Truist Stadium and took home a 16-10 victory in the Conference Carolinas tournament semifinals.
The No. 4-seeded Bulldogs led briefly, 2-1, in the first quarter on back-to-back goals by B.J. Wilson and Nic Lord before the Trojans peeled off five straight goals — including three by Benjamin Vanderkley — to seize control of the game.
J.J. Mitchell, Nick Calleri, Wilson and Lord had two goals each for the Bulldogs, who finished 7-10.
Chapman Parker’s four goals led the Trojans (11-3), who will take on No. 2 Belmont Abbey in Sunday’s championship match at Truist Stadium.

Bulldogs’ funk continues vs. Chowan
Barton College tied the program record in the NCAA era with wins in a season a stirring comeback to sweep the series with nationally ranked Mount Olive on April 14.
It’s been all downhill for the Bulldogs since. Barton, still stuck on 32 victories, as they lost their fifth straight Friday in the series opener, 3-2 to Chowan at Nixon Field.
Barton tumbled to 32-14 overall and 15-13 in Conference Carolinas play as the Bulldogs were limited to three hits by the Hawks mound duo of Josh Wise and Angel Diaz. Wise, who picked up his first win after eight losses, gave up two earned runs on two hits and a walk over six innings while Diaz limited Barton to three base runners in his three innings of work for his fourth save.
Bulldogs starting left-hander Connor Patterson was nicked for three earned runs on eight hits and two walks as he suffered his third loss against five wins.
Chowan designated hitter Dawerlyn Amancio’s two-run single in the third inning gave Chowan (8-34, 4-24) the lead after Barton scored in the second on second baseman Salvatore Laimo’s single up the middle.
First baseman Ryan Bellamy’s sacrifice fly brought in center fielder Patrick Krack with an insurance run later in the third that Chowan was glad to have after Bulldogs left fielder Josh Hoffman hammered a solo home run in the fourth.
The teams play a doubleheader to end the regular season Saturday, starting at noon.
