Will Wilmington-area schools close because of the storm?

The Wilmington area is under a tropical storm warning, and local school districts are monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.

Here's what you need to know.

Brunswick County Schools

Brunswick County Schools are operating on an early-release schedule Friday, Sept. 22, due to the threat of inclement weather.

According to a news release from the district, high schools will release at 11:45 a.m., middle schools will release at noon, and elementary schools will release at 12:45 p.m.

All afterschool activities scheduled for Friday have been cancelled.

New Hanover County Schools

Russell Clark, spokesperson for New Hanover County Schools, said on Thursday he had not heard about plans for early release on Friday, Sept. 22.

Pender County Schools

According to a news release on Thursday night, Pender County Schools will operate on an early release schedule on Friday.

Brunswick Community College

Brunswick Community College and all campus locations will close at 1 p.m. Friday. Evening classes are also cancelled. Where possible, classes will move to a remote schedule.

The Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex will also close at 1 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the college will operate on a normal schedule.
