Regional Preview: Vs. Duke

CONWAY, S.C. – Less than a week after winning the Colonial Athletic Association tournament title, the Seahawks (34-21) return to the diamond on Friday at 1 p.m. when they face Duke in the Conway Regional Opener at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Duke (35-21), who join Rider and regional host Coastal Carolina, earned an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament. The Blue Devils finished third in the ACC's Coastal Division with a record of 16-13.

UNCW also won the CAA regular season title and with the tournament title, it marks the second time the Seahawks have won both in the same season.

The Seahawks and Blue Devils last met in the 2016 Columbia with the Seahawks knocking off Duke 11-1 behind a complete-game effort by Ryan Foster.

Red-shirt sophomore Jacob Shafer (7-4, 4.46 ERA) will take the mound on Friday for the Seahawks, while Duke will give the ball to Alex Gow (5-2, 4.85). Shafer started the CAA tournament opener and tossed five innings of shutout baseball against Delaware as UNCW won, 3-0.

All games of the regional will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be aired locally in Wilmington on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM or WMFD AM 630. That radio feed can be heard on your smart device by downloading the Sunrise Radio App.
