On May 31 around 4 p.m., Caswell Beach Turtle Watch received several messages and phone calls concerning a large sea turtle on the beach. Once volunteers determined the location they arrived as the Loggerhead was making her way up the beach toward the dune. She crawled over the dune and dug her chamber to lay her clutch of eggs. After approximately 45 minutes, the turtle began covering and camouflaging the nest area, then turned around, climbed back over the dune and headed back to the ocean. Turtles laying nests during the day is a very uncommon occurrence and several lucky beachgoers had a chance to see this amazing event.
