WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Offshore Wind Open House hosted by the North Carolina Taskforce for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies (NC TOWERS) was held Tuesday, March 21.

The state is currently in the process of developing three offshore wind sites, and Gov. Roy Cooper has set a goal of producing enough wind energy by 2040 to power over two million homes.

Attendees had the opportunity to connect with NC Coastal Federations’ Coastal Management Program Director Kerri Allen, along with members of the NC TOWERS taskfor.

Visit NC Executive Director Wit Tuttell said he has heard people’s concerns about compromising the ocean view.

“One of our biggest concerns is ‘where are they going to be?’ Because people want to know, if is it going to impact the sightlines of people on the beach. And so one of our biggest missions is to get out here and tell people that these are going to be more than 20 miles offshore and they’re not going to impact the typical person who’s coming to the beach,” Tuttell said.

The event was hosted at Brunswick Community College’s Virginia Williamson Event Center from 4–7 p.m.
