The Tatnall girls lacrosse team upset Cape Henlopen to break their championship winning streak. The Vikings have won the championship thirteen consecutive years in a row before last night’s game. Cape had beaten Tatnall pretty decisively the past two state championship games 17-10 and 16-4.

Tatnall had to come from behind a few times in the game as they trailed the reigning champs for most of the game. With the game tied at 9 Avery Brumfield scored her only goal of the game to lift the Hornets over Cape 10-9 which was the game winning goal. Tatnall was able to win the draw after the goal and kept the ball running the clock out for the victory.

Kali Clayton led the Hornets with 5 goals as she scored three straight to tie the game up at 9. Lydia Colosante added 4 goals while Brumfield added 1 goal which proved to be the game winner.

The Vikings had won 176 consecutive games before the Hornets win. Cape hadn’t lost to another in-state opponent since 2009. The Hornets make history as they end the cape girls lacrosse dynasty run.
