Upper Moreland girls LAX clinches first-ever state playoff berth, will face defending champ Archbishop Carroll in first round

The Upper Moreland High School girls lacrosse team defeated Gwynedd Mercy in a District 1 5A matchup on Tuesday. The win clinched the program’s first-ever state playoff berth and the team will compete in the PIAA tournament’s first round tomorrow.

The Golden Bears will face Archbishop Carroll, the Philadelphia Catholic League and District 12 champion, in Tuesday’s first-round game. Carroll is the defending PIAA Class 2A state champion.

Upper Moreland finished the regular season 16-2 and clinched the Suburban One League American championship, its first in 22 years.

Olivia Meakim scored her 100th career goal during the Gwynedd Mercy contest, joining senior Reagan Cummins and sophomore Annalise Messina in the 100-goal club. Messina is closing in on her 200th.
