A Cleveland woman died from injuries she sustained in a one-car crash on Interstate 90 in Willoughby Hills on the morning of May 27.

Willoughby Hills police responded to a report of the crash on I-90 near the 189-mile marker at about 5:53 a.m. Officers arrived and found a maroon-colored, 2003 Saturn Ion in the median strip between the local and express lanes, a news release stated.

A preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle came off the bridge from Interstate 90 east and continued toward SOM Center Road when it lost control. The vehicle traveled across the local lanes and express lanes before striking a concrete wall.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was a 53-year-old Cleveland woman. Willoughby Hills Fire Department extracted the unconscious woman from the vehicle and transported her to University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The woman’s name was not listed in the news release, pending notification of family members.

Anyone with additional information pertaining to the crash is asked to call police at 440-942-9111.
