Lycoming College program lets high school students earn college credits

Williamsport, Pa. — Local high school students have a chance to earn college credits with Lycoming College's Early Warrior Dual Enrollment program.

The Early Warrior Dual Enrollment program invites 11th and 12th grade students from area public high schools to take college courses at Lycoming College while they are still enrolled in high school. The enrollment deadline is Aug. 15 for the Fall 2024 semester.

As part of Lycoming College’s new program, high school juniors and seniors will be able to earn college credits while still in high school, and by getting a jumpstart on their college careers, they may be able to earn a college degree faster and save money on the total cost of a college degree.

Lycoming College students benefit from small class sizes and individualized faculty attention, which is the ideal atmosphere for high school juniors and seniors to explore college majors, such as psychology, business administration, education, history, languages, music, the sciences and more, as they prepare for college admissions. To qualify for admission to Lycoming’s dual enrollment program, students must have a current high school G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher, or have an SAT score of 1100 or higher, or an ACT composite score of 22 or higher. Students must also have the recommendation of their high school guidance counselor.

Most dual enrollment courses are four credit hours and Lycoming charges $1000 per course ($250 per credit hour). The College is offering an EITC scholarship to every dual enrolled student for each course taken, bringing the student’s cost down to $400 per course ($100 per credit hour). Depending on the course, lab fees may also be incurred.

Each dual enrollment student will be assigned an academic advisor at Lycoming College who will maintain contact with each student’s high school guidance counselor regarding their progress, as well as provide a mid-semester assessment for each dual-enrolled student, and ongoing and individualized academic advising.
