The PCM baseball team couldn’t pull off an upset Tuesday night, as they were swept by Class 2A #4 ranked Williamsburg, while the 3A #15 ranked Mustangs softball team lost to Chariton 6-1.

The PCM baseball squad lost the first game of the twinbill to the Raiders 9-2, and after a lengthy lightning delay, dropped the second game 11-2. In game one, Williamsburg jumped on top 9-0 after the first four innings. PCM managed to get a run back in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to make the comeback. The Mustangs rallied to start game two, jumping on the scoreboard for the game’s first two runs in the bottom of the first. The quick start would unfortunately fade for PCM down the stretch as the Raiders scored 11 unanswered runs to drop the Mustangs to 2-5 on the season.

In Chariton, the PCM softball team fell behind early in the game and couldn’t find the runs to make up the difference. The Chargers grabbed the upper hand in the first inning with five runs on six hits, but the Mustangs held Chariton to just two hits the rest of the game. PCM would get a run back in the third inning, but the Chargers added their sixth and the game’s final run in the fifth inning to drop the Mustangs to 3-3 on the summer. Sidney Shaver and Addison Steenhoek each went 1-3 in the game with a double and Shaver batted in the lone run for PCM.

Both the Mustangs baseball and softball teams are set to be in action tonight with single Heart of Iowa Conference games on the road against Perry at 7:30 p.m.
