Woman headed to prison in fatal hit-and-run on Rolling Acres Road
A woman is headed to prison after a hit-and-run crash on Rolling Acres Road killed a 40-year-old pedestrian. Tara Rene Schiessle, 32, of Lady Lake, pleaded no contest on Monday in Lake County Court to charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury. The former Lake Centre for Rehab physical therapist assistant has been sentenced to three years in state prison to be followed by three years of probation. Court records indicate the prosecutor’s office waived a four-year minimum mandatory sentence as part of the plea deal. A charge of insurance fraud was also dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Realtor arrested on DUI charge after hitting parked car at Brownwood
A realtor was arrested on a drunk driving charge after hitting a parked car at Brownwood. Joanna Elizabeth Oswalt, 55, of Lake Panasoffkee, was “unresponsive” and “unable to stand” when she was found at the wheel of a Toyota pickup which struck the rear end of a parked Jeep at about 11 p.m. Friday in the parking lot across from Cody’s Original Roadhouse, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The witness who initially found Oswalt and dialed 911 told police that she “seemed to be unaware that the crash had even occurred.” The witness added that Oswalt was unable to stand and “laid on the ground in the parking lot.”

A moped rider was arrested in the parking lot of a church in The Villages. Devin Austin Rooney, 29, of Oxford, was riding the moped at about 5 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 466 when he was pulled over in the parking lot of Fairway Christian Church due to an expired registration, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy discovered that Rooney’s driver’s license has been suspended due to unpaid traffic tickets.

A man and woman found deceased inside a Summerfield residence in March each died from an accidental drug overdose, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report. Detective Daniel Pinder noted in his report the cause of death for Christopher Brian Collette was combined drug toxicity of fentanyl and amphetamine. His manner of death was listed as an accident. Collette was 63.

Officers were called at about 2:30 p.m. Monday to the home improvement store after 35-year-old Otis Dennis Andries of Orlando attempted to leave the store with pressure washers and power cleaner tools with a total value of $985, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. As the New York native stepped outside with the items, he was detained by a loss prevention officer at the store.
