An individual is in a Wichita hospital after what local authorities have ruled an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a press release, Seward County Undersheriff Ryan Roehr said around 8:30 a.m. Monday, a call was received reporting an individual laying on the ground near the intersection of Road R and Road 4 in rural Seward County.

“The reporting party stated the individual was bleeding from the head,” he said.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, the Seward County Fire Department and EMS responded to the location.

“During the course of the investigation, it was found the individual was a victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Roehr said.

The individual, the release said, was transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County EMS and was later transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
