Woman found lying in Wichita street dies from injuries, investigation underway

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is investigating the death of a 68-year-old woman found early Tuesday, lying unresponsive, severely injured in an east Wichita street. Police said the woman, Lori Lyman died from her injuries at a local hospital.

At about 2:19 a.m. Tuesday, officers driving in the 1000 block of North Webb Road found Lyman “laying on the roadway,” Wichita police reported. Police said she had critical injuries to her head and legs.

WPD detectives are asking anyone who was in that area between 2 and 2:20 a.m. Tuesday and saw anything suspicious or is aware of a vehicle with damage related to this incident to contact detectives at 268-4407 or 911.

“Additionally, detectives would like to speak with anyone who has had recent contact with Lyman. Wichita police are investigating after a woman was found unconscious near 13th and Webb Road.

A spokesperson for the Wichita Police Department said the woman was found around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. She was lying in the middle of the street in the 1000 block of North Webb Road.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police say at this point, there’s no evidence that she was struck by a vehicle, but they are trying to figure out how she got into the road.

The road will remain closed while the investigation continues.
