WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A father and son charged in a drive-by shooting that police said was the result of an ongoing family feud have both pleaded guilty.

Benny Ray Campa, 40 , and his son, Johnny Catano Campa, 19 , both of Wichita Falls, pleaded to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Friday, June 14, 2024, in the 78th District Court with Judge Meredith Kennedy presiding.

The Campa’s sentences were deferred with 5 years on probation. They were also ordered to pay restitution of just under $7,000 to the victim. Among the conditions of their sentence, they are prohibited from having any contact with the victim or the victim’s family.

The shooting on North Sixth Street on August 29, 2023 , was part of a long-standing feud between family members. A witness identified his cousin, Johnny Campa, as the person firing the shots as he and the victim stood outside a house.

According to the witness, a white Chevrolet pickup with four occupants he recognized drove by once, and then they passed a second time, with Benny driving and Johnny leaning out a window and firing at them.

A father influencing and in cahoots with his teenage son purposely planning, orchestrating, and driving him to the intended victim’s home to intentionally attempt murder! He prepped him with the gun/ammunition engaged in and encouraged him to take deadly aim and followed through by shooting their target in the abdomen, and they both just got their sentences deferred with 5 years on probation!!! This is absurd Judge!!!
