WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Since breaking ground in March 2023, the new Eastside Boys and Girls Club facility is taking shape.

“The impact will be significant. Impact to young people, to families and the community,” Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Randy Cooper said.

After multiple studies, Cooper said all signs pointed to a need for a center on the Eastside.

“When we look forward and look in this area in comparison to the other campuses located, 85% of the youngsters are members of the Boys and Girls Club,” Cooper said. “That is the highest percentage of Boys and Girls Club members in this community.”

The nonprofit is partnering with the Wichita Falls Housing Authority, splitting the 20,000-square-foot building into a community center and club operations.

Housing Authority Executive Director Paris Ward said the building will break barriers to transportation, childcare and more.

“Very hopeful and optimistic that many of the children that will be served here will be residents of the housing authority and children of the east side and the community,” Ward said. “That’s the good thing, is [it’s] conveniently located on the east side.”

And, it aims to continue education with a learning center and art studio. A full-size gym will also accommodate any games, but overall, it will provide a safe space.

“We wanted to consolidate into a large structure that could serve more kids and impact the community to a higher degree,” Cooper said.

As the two organizations aim to continue building the next generation of youth.

Cooper is hopeful construction can be completed by November. After moving equipment in, tours will be available for families before officially opening.
