Pulled from the mound in the first inning, the junior starting pitcher delivered the go-ahead run in Latta’s 6-5 win against Colbert in the Class 2A-I state baseball championship game Saturday afternoon. “Not one pitch of that was easy,” Latta coach Dillon Atkinson said. “We got down going into the last inning, and we had guys step up.” Colbert, which led 3-0 after the first inning, took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after No. 9 hitter Tucker Shields tripled and scored on a balk. The lead didn’t hold. Goolsby, after being roughed up on the mound, ripped a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs. He tripled earlier in the game on a ball the Colbert right fielder misplayed.
