Farewell Ashton Gatson
My time at the TJC student news or The DrumBeat has been an eye-opening experience that has really opened my eyes to news journalism and how all that works. My first week at The DrumBeat was honestly a bit intimidating. Everyone was doing their own thing, and I was just trying to find out where I could fit in with my skills from my previous years in college. First, I made a column about me and my twin brother called “Twin Separation,” which was fun to do but was not very convenient to do as a full-time college student with homework and other responsibilities that I need to do. So, I quickly pivoted to do something else. I tried designing a newspaper page, but I found myself quickly being outpaced by my fellow members and being overwhelmed with using InDesign for the first time.
