As the summer driving season begins, police in Fort Worth, Arlington and White Settlement are teaming up to slow down speeders on Tarrant County freeways.

Wednesday, officers from the three departments joined what Fort Worth police call "a joint effort traffic enforcement detail."

Using radar speed guns and motorcycle officers, the police pulled over 177 drivers on I-30 in a two-hour period.

Standing on overpasses and on-ramps, the radar officers noted who the speeders were and radioed the information to the motorcycle squad who made the traffic stops.

In those two hours, they wrote 150 tickets for going at least 20 mph over the speed limit. They also wrote nearly 50 citations for other infractions from no insurance and no driver's license to expired registrations and unsafe lane changes.

Quoting TxDOT, Fort Worth PD says "speeding is the leading cause of traffic fatalities in Texas. In addition, speeding increases the likelihood of serious injuries in the event of a crash."
