ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Washington D.C. man is behind bars after leading police on a high-speed, two-state chase Tuesday evening, March 22.
According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began in the village of White Pigeon when police tried to stop the driver for speeding through town around 7:30 p.m. The driver then sped away on eastbound US-12, reaching speeds of up to 130 miles per hour.
Sturgis city police deployed stop sticks when the 33-year-old drove through Sturgis Township. However, the driver continued traveling south into Indiana with St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputies and White Pigeon police continuing the chase until LaGrange County deputies and Indian State Police were able to take over.
The pursuit went westbound on the Indiana Toll Road and then back eastbound.
The suspect vehicle pulled into the Holiday Inn Hotel, south of the State Line, where the suspect attempted to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody by LaGrange County Deputies.
The suspect, a 33-year-old male, from Washington DC, was arrested and lodged at LaGrange County Jail for Fleeing and Eluding as well as other charges.
The suspect will have further pending charges from the St Joseph County Sheriff’s Office and White Pigeon Police Department for Fleeing and Elude.
No injuries resulted from the pursuit.
