ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A 33-year-old suspect out of Washington D.C. is accused of leading police agencies in two states on a high speed pursuit Tuesday night.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department says the pursuit started in White Pigeon just before 7:30 p.m. when police tried to stop a white SUV speeding through the village.
Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the SUV fled eastbound on U.S. 12 with speeds reaching up to 130 mph.
The pursuit went eastbound through White Pigeon and Sturgis Township where Sturgis Police Department Officers were able to deploy successful stop sticks on the vehicle.
The SUV then went south into Indiana. The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police joined the pursuit which eventually wound up on the Indiana Toll Road.
The suspect vehicle pulled into the Holiday Inn Hotel, south of the State Line, where the suspect tried to flee on foot.
After a short foot pursuit, he was taken into custody by LaGrange County Deputies.
The suspect was lodged at the LaGrange County Jail for Fleeing and Eluding as well as other charges.
He is looking at further charges from the St Joseph County Sheriff’s Office and White Pigeon Police Department for Fleeing and Eluding. No injuries were reported.
