What a collab. Cody Johnson is giving us a new one and is teaming up with a heavy hitter for the track. The Texas native is working with Oklahoma native, Carrie Underwood, for a new single titled "I'm Gonna Love You." The duo took to social media today to announce the new single is being handed to fans next Friday, September 27th.
"Thrilled to announce that 'I’m Gonna Love You' is coming out next Friday, 9/27. Thank you, Carrie Underwood, for joining me on this one and making it so special. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it." https://www.instagram.com/p/DABvd7zpNPa/?img_index=1 Travis Denning penned this ballad, noting in a video that teased the song that it was not meant to be a duet. However, when he did the track demo, there was a female harmony, which got Johnson and him thinking it would make for a killer duet. When the two put their brains together to see who should be the added feature, Denning said they should shoot for the stars. "I cut that song in 2019. I didn't have a hit yet or anything. I literally...this is what's so crazy. I was like, 'Who could we get to sing the harmony?' I was like, 'Shoot for the stars, baby, let's ask...'"
And the stars aligned for them, landing one of the biggest names among female country artists. https://www.instagram.com/p/DABh9sZgtyy/ Johnson shared a snippet of the song yesterday before fans knew Underwood would be featured, and it has already taken off on social media. The tender love song hits all the marks for a Cody Johnson hit - heartfelt, intentional, and filled with soulful twangs. The song's teaser highlights lyrics detailing that no matter how things may change, the love the narrator has for his woman remains steadfast and unchanging. "Stars are gonna light up the midnight sky The sun's gonna burn on the Fourth of July Times are going to turn with the pull of the moon And I'm gonna love you..." Given how the public reacted to this snippet of Johnson's verse, I can't wait to hear Underwood's vocals on the song. This one feels like it will be something special. https://www.instagram.com/p/C__3Yq4A9Wp/
