Vermont Black Bear Scales House, Breaks Down Through Attic To Get To Balcony Bird Feeder

You've just up and move places after something like this, right? There are a couple of tried and true things people that live in bear country can do in order to avoid attracting bears. And there's three big ones that most people try to follow if they happen to cohabit with bruins: -Secure/lock trash up -Clean out BBQs after use -Do not leave food out that could attract bears (even bird food) As you can see, those three pillars of bear avoidance all include food in some form or fashion (trash, recently cooked, for the birds). Thus, if you love bird watching and want to have a feeder, you probably shouldn't live in an areas where bruins also live. One Vermont resident made the mistake of trying to put a bird feeder out, and even though it was on the second floor of an apartment building, one hungry bear still managed to track it down... sort of. The Stowe Police Department in Vermont were called after a resident witnessed a bear climbing up into the attic area of an outside deck. So naturally, the authorities responded to the scene to try and assist. Sure enough, the bear had gotten itself stuck in the attic area above the deck, which caused quite the scene - as you'll see in the video below. The Vermont Warden Service posted a clip of the big ol' bear falling through the attic area shortly before it ran off into the woods without much of a fight. They also posted a message to those in the area informing about the situation and warning residents to not make the same mistake that these individuals did: "A Game Warden and Stowe PD responded to a condo facility for a report of a bear that climbed in the attic section above a second story deck. The Game Warden was able to get the bear to retreat out of the attic and back into the woods without incident. A couple units were evacuated as a precaution during the incident. Through investigation, it was learned there was an empty bird feeder hanging from the ceiling where the bear was. The Vermont Warden Service would like to remind everyone to secure their garbage, take down and remove all bird feeders, and to compost correctly.
