Another artist-associated bar is coming to Nashville.

Today, Nashville Business Journal reported that country star Riley Green is putting his name on a Music City bar, as a “building sign permit titled ‘Riley Green’s Duck Blind’ was filed with Metro yesterday, August 7th, for the Midtown location of Winners Bar & Grill.

    Additionally, they reported that:

“Nashville-based company Sign Me Up, known for its old-school neon signs, is working on the project.”

So yeah, you can pretty much bet that Riley will be part of the ongoing revamp of Winners, which is a legendary bar located right next to Losers and a local favorite among Nashvillians that closed a few months ago temporarily for a “makeover”:

On Instagram, Riley is also now following an account called “Duck Blind Nash” (a great name, by the way), which doesn’t have any activity or posts yet, but features his signature duck logo on the profile photo.

There has been no word confirming the partnership by either Winners, Riley or his team, but with the filing happening yesterday, we should have some official news, and hopefully a reopening date, soon.

And I have to say, it seems like a perfect fit and I love that Riley’s venturing off Lower Broadway, which is full of artist-owned and associated bars, and heading for Midtown, a very different move than the likes of Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton and others who are all jam-packed within the same couple blocks of each other. And I’m also biased because I love both Winners and Losers.

I’m sure it will be full of camo and ducks, right on brand for the Alabama native and hunting aficionado, which will certainly make it even more unique among all of his fellow artists who have their names on bars, so I’m excited to see that part of it.

    Stay tuned…

Riley Green’s Funny New Single, “Rather Be”

    A summer jam.

Today, Riley Green released a new song called “Rather Be,” which was written by Dan Isbell and Randy Montana and is the first release from Riley since he put out his Way Out Here EP in April of this year.

In terms of the content, it’s a pretty straightforward and funny tune I think many guys will relate to, where he basically lists off all the places he would “rather be” than listening to his girlfriend b***h at him for leaving clothes on the floor and things of that nature:

“When I hear you bitch at me,

It makes me think of all the,

    Places I’d rather be,

I’d rather be strippin’ off shingles on a July roof,

    Down in Tishomingo,

Working like a dog living in a single wide,

    Yes, I would,

I’de rather be stuck at your mama’s,

Watching midday re-runs of her favorite dramas,

Wearin’ my pajamas neck deep in ‘Days Of Our Lives'”

Damn… he’s really over it if he’s willing to watch Days Of Our Lies with his girlfriends mom.

Of course, it also features some very country production and is right in Riley’s wheelhouse in terms of the topic of relationships gone wrong, or going wrong, and it’s just plain funny, which is always entertaining in a country song.

    “Rather Be”

Riley most recently released his full-length sophomore studio album Ain’t My Last Rodeo in October of 2023, and in April, put out a fantastic EP called Way Out Here that featured great songs like “Jesus Saves” and “Worst Way” (yeah, he ran the gamut in terms of topical content).

But it seems like we’re turning a chapter and starting a new era of music, so to speak, with this new song, and Riley previously said that he’s been in the studio and looking to put out a new album this fall:

“Yeah, we’re in the studio. I’m actually recording the last few songs on my next album this week. We’re gonna put some new music out in the fall.”

Riley also teased an unreleased song called “Don’t Mind If I Do” in June, and I am already obsessed with it and can only hope it makes the final cut and we get to hear the studio version soon:
