Veterans events scheduled in Trenton for June at VFW Post 919
A veterans service officer, a Missouri Veterans Commission representative, and a Kansas City Vet Center counselor will be at Trenton VFW Post 919 on June 7. The Veterans Service Officer and Veterans Commission representative will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist with VA paperwork and answer questions. Attendees should bring a copy of their DD-214. The Vet Center counselor will be available on June 7 from 11 a.m. until all attendees are seen. The counselor provides support for readjustment, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression.
Laredo Board of Education approves Career Ladder District Plan

Chillicothe City Council accepts bids for park projects and approves new ordinances
The Chillicothe City Council approved four ordinances on May 13. Two ordinances accepted the lowest responsible bids for the parking lot asphalt overlay at Danner Memorial Park and the replacement of the roof on the Chillicothe Street Department building at 30 South Mitchell Avenue. City Clerk Amy Hess reported that the accepted bid for the asphalt overlay was from Capital Paving for $181,360 with the prevailing wage increase. The accepted bid for the roof replacement was from Freedom General Contracting for $49,750.

Torch run routes for Special Olympics set in Chillicothe and Gallatin
Special Olympics Missouri has released information on routes for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Missouri. Area routes will be run on May 22. In Chillicothe, the route will run from Simpson Park to the fire station, starting at 9 a.m. The Gallatin route will begin at the courthouse at 11:30 a.m. and proceed down Main Street. The Cameron route will start at the police department on May 22 at 1 p.m.

Former Rock Island Railroad Depot in Trenton demolished
The former Rock Island Railroad Depot in Trenton was demolished on May 14. Rob Maloney’s family worked for the Rock Island Railroad and reports the building was erected in 1961 and was originally used as a dispatch office. It became a depot in 1968 when the previous depot was torn down. The rear of the depot served as the passenger waiting area.
