Junior Ryan Rice is a three-sport Varsity Athlete. Rice competes in field hockey, soccer, and basketball. The commitment and drive it requires to play three sports at such a high level is very demanding. As a sophomore, Rice made both the varsity basketball and soccer teams. This fall, Rice joined the varsity field hockey team.

Evanston’s basketball program hasn’t always put its best foot forward competing at the Team Rose Shootout event. The Wildkits lost in their past two trips to the shootout hosted by Mount Carmel High School, and those losses to Bloom (50-48 in 2021) and Marian Catholic (57-45 in 2022) were close to the low points of those respective seasons.

Saint Viator's bowling team has grown significantly this year, now boasting 40 members. Freshman Kennet Doyle welcomes this growth, while junior Caroline Schermerhorn finds the larger team size occasionally overwhelming.

On the heels of four consecutive defeats, Northwestern traveled to the east coast to open Big Ten play against Maryland Sunday. After falling into a 14-2 deficit in the opening minutes of its clash against Georgetown, coach Joe McKeown and senior forward Jasmine McWilliams both emphasized that the Wildcats (3-6, 0-1 Big Ten) needed to be “ready to play” against the Terrapins (7-3, 1-0 Big Ten). The Franklin Park Lady Bobcats are in action tonight at Carlyle. The Odin/Patoka girls are at home with New Horizon. The Centralia Jr High Tigers are still undefeated following their win at the Mount Vernon Shootout on Saturday over Benton 78-20. Tonight, the SC Falcons are at home with Vandalia.

Another home win for the Cougars as they defeat MSL East rivals Buffalo Grove. Once again, they scored over 60 points in the game, getting the win with a final score of 66-44. After some energetic action and now with a 4-3 record, the Cougars will now be preparing for their next game against the Barrington Broncos, on Friday, December 8, at Barrington High School.

Evanston head coach Mike Ellis could tell early on Friday night that his young squad wasn’t in the right headspace for its conference matchup against Glenbrook North. In the first quarter, senior Spartan guard Sam Lappin drove to the rim, missed a pull-up jumper, collected his miss, missed again and still pulled down his rebound yet again. Then, Lappin drove closer to the basket this time, missed yet another layup and, once again, corraled his miss for his third offensive rebound of that possession. Lappin finally kicked it out to teammate senior Josh Fridman who drove to the rim and scored. After that sequence, Ellis had seen enough.

The Vikings suffered an unfortunate loss in the “Battle of the Bridge” tournament against DePaul prep, but don’t let this distract you from the rest of their season. The Vikings, currently 5-1 in their season, have some of the most promising talents in the state of Illinois. With juniors Reid Olson, Yaris Irby, Hunter Gawron, Dylan Lam, Kaidan Chatham, and more, the team has built an extremely successful squad for this year, and for years to come. The team has also developed a strong sophomore class and has some incredibly solid seniors putting in the work for them too, holding down the squad.

Principal Tom Barbini of Keller Junior High School shared an update with the school community on December 8, 2023. He reported a successful week, highlighted by the sixth-grade family night on Tuesday. The event, attended by over 500 people, welcomed incoming seventh-grade families. Barbini acknowledged the staff's hard work in preparing for the event.
