Suburban police continue search for teen who vanished while heading to holiday party
The family of Brissa Romero, a Carpentersville, Illinois teen who disappeared one week ago while on her way to a holiday party at a bowling alley in Vernon Hills, are asking those who live near the intersection where Romero was last seen to share security footage as their search for the 17-year-old continues.
Suspected Highland Park shooter expected in court Monday
CHICAGO (CBS)-- The man accused in the Highland Park parade shooting is due in court Monday. Robert Crimo III's murder trial date is expected to be scheduled during the hearing. He has been indicted on a total of 117 counts, including 21 counts of first-degree murder - three counts for each person who died - along with 48 counts of attempted murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery - one for each surviving victim who was struck by a bullet, bullet fragment, or shrapnel, according to Lake County prosecutors. He's also charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.Monday's court hearing is set for 11 a.m. at the Lake County Courthouse.

Evanston Police Officer Random Johnson is used to his partner, K9 Aston, getting most of the attention. Aston is a handsome black German Shepard dog born in 2017 in the Czech Republic. He joined the Evanston Police Department in 2019. He weighs about 90 pounds and seems to be all muscle. If you see Aston in Evanston, it means that he is working with Johnson. And if they are working, then Aston is all business.
Pair facing charges after drugs, $10K in cash found during Lake Forest crash
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - A suburban man and woman have been charged after police found drugs and over $10,000 in cash following a car crash Tuesday afternoon in Lake Forest. Lake Forest police responding to a crash with injuries around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 41 and Westleigh Road. Witnesses told police two people fled the crash on foot.
Weekly Safety Report: Fentanyl Ring and Human Trafficking Investigation Impact Lombard, Illinois
Two incidents occurred in Lombard, Illinois this week. In the first incident, a man pleaded guilty to running a fentanyl drug ring and attempting to support ISIS. He was caught in a sting operation after sending money to an informant, believing it would reach an ISIS fighter. The second incident involved a human trafficking investigation, resulting in the arrest of a Chicago man and the rescue of four women. The investigation was initiated based on a tip from a survivor of human trafficking.
Teen Missing, Last Seen in Vernon Hills
(Carpentersville, IL) A teen from Carpentersville is being sought, after going missing in Lake County. Police say Brissa Romero was last seen near the Vernon Hills Bowlero on Monday. She has been described as a 17-year-old, about 5 feet tall, 115 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in her gray 2008 Nissan Rogue with a license plate of CZ64618. Anyone with information is being encouraged to call Carpentersville Police.
Lake County Man Convicted of Attempted Murder in Bus Stabbing Incident
LAKE COUNTY, Ill. - Errol Shakes, 53, has been found guilty of attempted murder in a case involving a stabbing on a public transportation bus. The verdict came after a two-day bench trial, concluding a case that began with Shakes being charged on October 21.

Chicago Men Charged in Elmhurst Business Break-In Attempt; Police Chase Ensues
Elmhurst, IL – Two Chicago men face burglary charges following an alleged attempted break-in at a business on W. Diversey Avenue in Elmhurst. The incident occurred early on December 7, with Elmhurst Police responding to a burglar alarm. Steven Smith, 33, and Deevven Q. Harris, 28, allegedly attempted to enter the premises, triggering a police pursuit. Smith was apprehended near the scene, while Harris fled in a vehicle, leading to a chase involving tire deflation devices and assistance from state and local police. Harris faces additional charges related to the pursuit.
Ill. man accused of running over woman he met on dating app during argument
DES PLAINES, Ill. (TCD) -- A woman was sent to the hospital after a man she met on a dating app allegedly ran her over with his car because they got into an argument. According to a crime report by the Des Plaines Police Department, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 4:28 a.m., a patrolling officer heard a scream from a woman who was found knocking on a store's front door. The officer made contact with the woman, who said she had been struck by a car. The police report noted the woman's "clothes were wet and disheveled, showing signs of an incident occurring."
