Warning: these donuts are almost too beautiful to eat. But the unique flavor combinations and perfect techniques are not worth missing. This boutique, hand-crafted donut shop is owned and operated by a local mom who has been on the long journey to open a storefront, and it's finally happening! Her shop will be opening at 118 W. Liberty in downtown Wheaton, so follow along on her progress, and make sure to order some exclusive donuts in the meantime via Instagram -- but move quick, they always sell out!

How do you know if a donut is feeling sad or tired?

John's Donut Shop

1570 Bloomingdale Rd, Glendale Heights, IL 60139

If you're equally as upset as I am about Dunkin' permanently retiring the French Cruller, do not fret. An even BETTER replacement has been found, and it is at John's Donut Shop in Glendale Heights. The location is a little unassuming, but trust me, it will be your new favorite go-to when you need a quick and affordable dozen to feed a crowd. And my kids love John's because the sprinkled donut selection is always on point.

Baby Doll Bakery

207 S. Hale Street, Wheaton, IL 60187

http://babydollbakerygf.com/

If you're looking for gluten free, dairy free or vegan treats, you must visit Baby Doll Bakery (formally Sweet Natalie's Gluten Free Bakery). Even if you don't have any dietary restrictions, everything in this store is delicious! They have donuts, donut holes, packzi, and more! Since they are very knowledgeable and strive to be a one-stop-shop for gluten free goodness, you can also pick up pasta, bread, and other grocery items. The owner, Nicole, is extremely friendly and will guide you through everything in the store with ease!

The Donut Experiment

2770 S Highland AVE, Lombard, Illinois 60148

I know the title says "experiment", but this is truly an "experience". This is a great place to take the kids, because each donut is customizable. They begin with a moist vanilla cake donut, and you choose your favorite icing, or coating, and topping combo from a giant list of options.

Is anyone's stomach growling yet? Just me?

Support our Wheaton-locally-owned donut shops on Donut Day — they not only will fill that "hole" you've had in your stomach, but you can also feel good about supporting one of our local small businesses that make Wheaton and the surrounding towns so special.
