STUART, Fla. (WFLA) — A 9-foot alligator was captured after deputies said they found the animal “stalking” dog walkers in a Florida community.

The gator initially caused concern days before when neighbors spotted the reptile crossing from the riverside to the beachside of Sailfish Point in Stuart, as it concealed itself near the walking area.

On Wednesday, the gator returned to the beachside and moved into the lanai of the condominium, hiding in a patch of sea grapes near the walking area.

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the complex, deeming the animal “too close for comfort” for the community.

Sergeant Crystal Nash and Deputy Dawn Ferris, also referred to by the sheriff’s office as the “gator girls,” were able to apprehend the nearly 10-foot giant as they waited for a professional trapper.

The alligator was successfully captured and relocated.

“Fearless gator warriors!” the sheriff’s office said.

Officials want to remind Florida residents to always stay aware when walking by themselves, or with animals, near these areas, as they can serve as the perfect place for gators to conceal themselves.

“They are fast and can lunge with great force if they target something they want,” deputies said.

Dear humans, gators eat dogs. They love them; it's their favorite snack. If you walk around this beautiful swamp with a blissfully uneducated mindset, you or your pets will die! Ask the Amazon driver who was bitten by a rattler. A snake could live in your house for a week, and you would never know it. If you have a pond in the back of your gated community, gators will swim in from the culverts that control lake levels. You are never safe. Get it! i feel sorry for our gators. locals respect them and have gotten along with them for centuries.
