TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A day after a deadly shooting at the Citrus Park Mall in West Tampa , the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said there is no update in regards to an arrest.

On Saturday night, a teenager died as a result of the shooting. Two people have been detained, but not arrested.

It’s unclear if those detained were teenagers.

“At approximately 7:16 p.m. we received calls of shots fired here at the mall,” said HCSO Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer.

At the scene, officials found the boy with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m.

The sheriff’s office is searching for the person who shot and killed a teenager in front of Red Robin.

Chief Deputy Maurer said they’re working with witnesses to find out more.

“I don’t know if they knew each other,” said Maurer. “I knew that they were eating and a fight broke out, I don’t know exactly the nature of that. Our detectives are getting to the bottom of that.”

8 on your side spoke with some mall-goers after the shooting who, like many, are calling for an end to the senseless gun violence.

Ramirez, a mother of three, said the Red Robin connected to the Citrus Park Mall is normally a place she feels safe to bring her kids, but the family-friendly environment was violently disrupted Saturday night.

“Some parents allow their kids to do whatever, roam around, and stuff but pay more attention to your kids because a lot of killing is going on and I feel bad for the kids,” said Ramirez.

Many concerned parents in the area had suggestions for ways to try and prevent gun violence.

“I mean I just think that more regulations on things and people paying attention,” said Minday Bhuian. “I think education is a big piece of it too.”

“Sheriff Chronister and team HCSO have no tolerance for that type of behavior in a community-oriented place like the shopping mall,” said Maurer.

“This senseless act of violence not only robbed a family of their loved one but caused unnecessary fear and trauma to dozens of people who were just trying to enjoy their Saturday night at the mall,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our detectives are using every resource available to hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable.”

Deputies have not released additional information on the age of the victim or details leading up to the shooting.

    This is an ongoing investigation.
