Teen dies after being shot outside Red Robin at Citrus Park Town Center

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A teenager has died after he was shot outside the Red Robin at the Citrus Park Town Center on Saturday night.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call around 7:16 p.m. for reports of shots fired outside the mall.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the individual suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body in the restaurant’s parking lot. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he later died.

HCSO did not provide any details regarding the victim’s age but said he was a teenager.

Two people have been detained for questioning. Deputies said it’s unclear what role they played in the shooting. No one has been arrested at this time.

The sheriff’s office said the incident was not an active shooter situation.

“This senseless act of violence not only robbed a family of their loved one but caused unnecessary fear and trauma to dozens of people who were just trying to enjoy their Saturday night at the mall,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Our detectives are using every resource available to hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable.”

Deputies said it’s unclear what led up to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
