    One person died in Friday's explosion in Westhoff

    WESTHOFF, Texas - 25 News Now has learned one person was killed Friday in an explosion at a saltwater disposal plant in Westhoff.

    The explosion resulted in a fire that claimed the life of Advantec employee Larry Kevin Hendricks, 41 of Beeville.

    Hendricks was pronounced dead by Justic of the Peace Precinct 2 Blanca McBride and ordered an autopsy to be completed.

    Colin Stevenson, CEO of Advantek Waste Management Services, released the following statement:

    "Friday, an explosion occurred at our Westhoff, TX site, resulting in the death of one of our long-time colleagues. We bear this loss with incredibly heavy hearts and our thoughts and support is with the family and maintaining their privacy at this difficult time."

    "We are working on the ground closely with local law enforcement and safety professionals to ascertain the root cause of the event and to mitigate its impacts as quickly as possible. We are grateful to the local emergency responders who assisted with putting out the fire Friday afternoon. At this time, we do not anticipate any additional impacts to the surrounding areas."

    DeWitt County Sheriff Carl R. Bowen made the following statement regarding the incident:

    "This incident is a tragic case where an employee lost their life while doing their job. Our sympathies go out to the Hendricks family during this time of their tragic loss. The DeWitt County Sheriff’s office will continue to investigate as to the cause of the explosion that resulted in a tragic loss of life."

    Explosion reported in Westhoff in DeWitt County early Friday afternoon

    DEWITT COUNTY, Texas - Friday at 2:50 p.m. 25 News Now confirmed reports of an explosion in Westhoff. DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said no one was hurt and authorities were still working the scene around 4:30 p.m. Around 5 p.m. he said authorities were still working to account for everyone at the facility.
