On the average May is the second wettest month of the year for Indianapolis with an average of 4.75″ of rain. So far, the month has lived up to its billing. We’ve had three inches of rain this week, pushing our monthly total to almost four inches. The frequent rains of April and May have put farmers behind schedule. Only 36% of the corn crop and 34% of the soybean crops have been planted. Last year by this time, 50% of the corn crop and 47% of the soybean crops had been planted.

The Iron Skillet, a family-style restaurant located in an 1870s-era home, has shuttered. Open since 1953 at 2489 W. 30th St., the throwback destination, with its big bowls of fried chicken (some of the region’s best, in our estimation) and long-cooked sides, hosted many an unchallenging—unless we’re talking about family dynamics, perhaps—intergenerational gathering. INDIANAPOLIS – Kyle Larson followed a successful Fast Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a concerning start to the first day of qualifications. Larson — who was sixth in the qualifying order — was on the backstretch of his fourth and final qualification lap when he pulled his No. 17 Arrow McLaren Racing Chevrolet into the deceleration lane and drove into pit lane with his four-lap, 10-mile qualification attempt unfinished.
