GIRLS STATE SOCCER: Timberline goes back-to-back, Fruitland completes unbeaten season
Timberline sought redemption in the 6A girls soccer state tournament last week following the 6A District III tournament where its perfect season was spoiled in the championship game. But the best team in 6A throughout the entire season prevailed in Saturday’s state championship game from Hillcrest High School. The match between the Wolves and Lake City seemed destined for a penalty shootout, until the ball found the feet of Allee Haynes on a fortunate bounce for Timberline. A scuffed shot inside the penalty box by Eva Rivera landed right in front of Haynes, who quickly put a shot into an open net for the golden goal to win the game 1-0 for the Wolves, the school’s second-straight state title and fourth in program history. “It was such a relief,” Timberline head coach Maison O’Neill said about winning state. “These girls have put in such much work and are a phenomenal group of young ladies. They truly did deserve to be state champions. I’m glad the scoreline showed that today.” The story of Timberline’s season has been one of near perfection. Going into the district championship game against Owyhee last Tuesday, the Wolves had won all 17 games they had played

Kuna punches playoff ticket by beating Meridian
KUNA — The high school football postseason officially begins next week, but Kuna treated Friday’s regular-season finale against Meridian as a de facto playoff game. And for good reason. In a win-or-go-home spot, the Kavemen secured a 27-13 home victory over the Warriors to punch their ticket to the Class 6A state playoffs. “It’s the first round of the playoffs,” first-year Kuna head coach Josh Bravo said. “The kids wanted it. The kids have been wanting it all year, and they’ve just been developing it throughout the year. This is what we’re starting to put together, a full team effort.” After Meridian (5-4, 2-3 6A Southern Idaho Conference Foothills Division) trimmed Kuna’s (5-4, 3-2) lead to 20-13 with 6:58 remaining, the Kavemen put the game away with an impressive touchdown march. The drive included a 24-yard strike from quarterback Lino Senio to Peyton Martin on third-and-long. Ian Lackie had a five-yard touchdown run with 61 seconds to play to finish off the drive. Martin led the way for the Kavemen with five catches for 142 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Martin, a senior, credits Bravo for sparking Kuna’s turnaround following a two-win season. “He’s brought that

A recent investigation involving alleged controversial social-media messages and death threats connected to Boise’s Timberline High School is raising difficult questions about student safety, accountability, and what happens when harmful behavior moves from a private conversation to a wider audience.
