New owner has big plans for historic Springfield building | Exclusive
SPRINGFIELD, IL – An out-of-state buyer has plans to bring life back to a historic building in downtown Springfield that was damaged by a fire back in February. Anthony Beltramea had interest in the Virgil Hickcox Building before the February fire and now has plans to bring new life into the 1830s building which has ties to Abraham Lincoln and was home of the iconic Norb Andy's Tabarin. Beltramea, who was born in central Illinois and has since moved to Florida, toured the building in late August and saw potential in the space and has a vision in mind for a bed and breakfast. Lincoln apartments saw slight rent increases since last August
Renters in Lincoln saw apartment listing prices slightly increase from August 2025's median of $1,077, an analysis of new data from rental marketplace Zumper shows. The typical apartment listed for rent at $1,100 in August. Median listing prices in Lincoln are trending the same as the previous month's $1,100 price. The data covers all bedroom sizes, ranging from studios to four-bedroom units, within the specified metropolitan area. It reflects the median rent for all listings that were active at any given point during the month, according to Russell Middleton, co-founder of Zumper. When those are excluded, the overall median rent for listed apartments goes to $1,100. One-bedroom apartments listed to rent at a median of $880, slightly lower than July, when they were $890.
